Tips for Life is a learning program developed by American Century Investments that places students in real-life situations. Throughout the program, students apply critical thinking, solve problems, make decisions, create plans and businesses and engage in cause and effect scenarios. The program enables students to apply economics, personal finance, business skills and strategies and technology to their life, now and in the immediate future. Tips for Life is recommended for high school age or older students. However, individual modules or activities may be appropriate for middle school students and adults.

The program is divided into four themed modules, one mini-module and a final project, all housed on the Tips for Life website. The program models effective learning and encompasses two major themes of contemporary reform in education: Experiential Learning and Constructivist Learning. The program can be integrated into any subject area or used as a complete semester or unit course. The modules may be used in any sequence, however, the program recommends engaging them in this order:
  • Corporate Confidence,
  • Information Generation,
  • Intelligent Investing, and
  • It Is Your Business.
The mini-module, Ethics and Etiquette, can be integrated into any of the main modules, or used as a stand alone component. The Final Project is best used after the students have completed all of the modules.
